O presidente brasileiro Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva revelou ter proposto à sua homóloga no México, Claudia Sheinbaum, uma aliança estratégica entre as estatais Petrobras e Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) para explorar jazidas de petróleo em águas profundas do Golfo do México.
Durante sua agenda presidencial em Betim, Minas Gerais, na sexta-feira (20/03), dedicada para anunciar investimentos no setor de refinaria, o líder brasileiro afirmou ter telefonado para a "camarada Claudia", a pedido da presidente da Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, para explorar uma possível colaboração com a Pemex, estatal mexicana.
"Você sabia que a Pemex pode ter uma ajuda muito grande da Petrobras para explorar petróleo junto com a Pemex, no Golfo do México, a 2,5 mil metros?", teria perguntado Lula a Sheinbaum na ligação.
A última vez que a mandatária mexicana manteve um contato telefônico com o homólogo brasileiro foi em 9 de março, no qual ambos expressaram interesse em aprofundar os laços bilaterais na área de energia, no âmbito da guerra comercial desencadeada pelo presidente dos Estados Unidos, Donald Trump. Os dois países pretendem fortalecer as relações nessa esfera antes da próxima cúpula bilateral, prevista para junho ou julho.
Controlada pelo Brasil, a Petrobras conta com ações negociadas nas bolsas de valores de Nova York, Madri e São Paulo, e ela tem grande experiência em águas profundas desde a descoberta do horizonte marinho do pré-sal brasileiro. Até o momento, o gabinete mexicano não se pronunciou sobre o assunto, no entanto, ultimamente Sheinbaum tem realizado esforços na busca de parceiros privados para ajudar a Pemex a elevar a produção.
