Ao menos 175 pessoas ficaram feridas no sul de Israel após o Irã bombardear as cidades de Dimona e Arad na noite de sábado (21).
Segundo os socorristas, 11 civis estão em estado grave. Para o primeiro-ministro de Tel Aviv, Benjamin Netanyahu, "esta é a prova de que o regime persa precisa ser destruído".
A mídia local destacou neste domingo (22) que as Forças de Defesa israelenses (IDF) não conseguiram interceptar pelo menos dois mísseis balísticos, que se abateram sobre os municípios, sendo que Arad foi o mais afetado.
O projétil de meia tonelada caiu em meio a casas em um bairro operário da cidade com vista para o Mar Morto e habitada por judeus ultraortodoxos, árabes beduínos e imigrantes russos. A enorme explosão destruiu 20 moradias, ferindo 115 pessoas. Cerca de 70 crianças foram hospitalizadas e 500 civis ficaram desalojados.
Duas horas antes, outros foguetes lançados pelo Irã também atingiram um bairro residencial em Dimona, onde um prédio de vários andares desabou, ferindo 60 pessoas.
O elevado número de civis envolvidos nessas explosões, como muitos afirmaram, deve-se ao fato de que, até então, a região era uma das menos atacadas por Teerã.
"Nos sentíamos seguros aqui. Tenho casa, mas nunca entro nela quando as sirenes tocam. Agora aprendi a lição", disse à ANSA Adam Abu Rabi'a, instrutor de direção que mora perto de um dos locais da explosão, sendo originário da vila beduína de Drijat, perto de Arad.
Sua residência sofreu danos leves, mas ele tem vários parentes entre os desabrigados.
"A guerra é terrível e esperamos que termine logo. Nem consigo imaginar o que aconteceria se o Irã tivesse armas nucleares", comentou Rabi'a, que "apoia" o exército israelense.
Um porta-voz das IDF revelou neste domingo que desde o início da ofensiva, em 28 de fevereiro, Teerã lançou mais de 400 mísseis balísticos contra o território judeu, cujas forças interceptaram 92% dos projéteis.
"Se vocês queriam provas de que o Irã coloca o mundo em risco, mas últimas 48 horas comprovaram", declarou Netanyahu ao visitar Arad hoje.
"Eles lançaram um míssil balístico intercontinental contra Diego Garcia [ilha britânica no Oceano Índico]. Eles têm capacidade para atingir o interior da Europa. Que outras provas a mais você precisa para se convencer de que este regime, que ameaça o mundo inteiro, precisa ser detido?", acrescentou o premiê israelense, que ao lado do presidente americano, Donald Trump, iniciou a guerra contra o Irã no final do mês passado.
