O senador Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) disse que seu pai, o ex-presidente Jair Bolsonaro (PL), decidiu que não irá se candidatar à Presidência caso sua inelegibilidade seja revertida.

A condenação pelo suposto plano de golpe de Estado gerou o impedimento de concorrer por oito anos. O prazo, porém, começa a contar depois do cumprimento da pena de 27 anos e três meses. Há ainda outra pena de inelegibilidade, fruto de uma condenação no Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) por uma reunião com embaixadores em julho de 2022, quando Bolsonaro fez críticas ao sistema eletrônico de votação. Com isso, ele só poderia voltar ao pleito em 2060, quando o ex-presidente terá 105 anos.
