O petróleo Brent, referência global, subiu 4,5%, para US$ 105,71 o barril, enquanto seu equivalente americano, o West Texas Intermediate (WTI), subiu 3,6%, para US$ 103,69, nas negociações asiáticas.
Ambos os contratos eram negociados em baixa antes do início do pronunciamento à nação do presidente americano sobre o conflito. No discurso, Trump pediu a outros países que "cuidassem" da abertura do estratégico Estreito de Ormuz, por onde passa 20% da produção mundial de petróleo bruto.
