A Nasa divulgou imagens da Terra captadas pela cápsula Orion nesta sexta-feira, 3. Trata-se da protagonista da histórica missão Artemis II.
Os novos registros, transmitidos em tempo real, revelam continentes, formações de nuvens e oceanos com cores vibrantes, além de capturarem auroras boreais visíveis nas regiões polares.
As fotos fazem parte da cobertura ao vivo da jornada, que marca o retorno de voos tripulados para além da órbita terrestre pela primeira vez desde a missão Apollo 17, em 1972.
Em alguns momentos da transmissão, apesar de eventuais instabilidades de sinal, já é possível observar a Lua ao fundo, destino final desta etapa do programa.
A cápsula Orion deixou a órbita terrestre aproximadamente 25 horas após a decolagem. Na última quinta-feira (2), a tripulação realizou com sucesso um ajuste de trajetória, colocando a nave em rota direta para o entorno lunar.
A expectativa é que os astronautas alcancem a região da Lua na próxima segunda-feira (6).
O objetivo da Nasa é utilizar o satélite natural como base para futuras operações permanentes e como ponto de apoio para missões tripuladas a Marte.
A Artemis II é comandada por Reid Wiseman, acompanhado pelos astronautas Victor Glover, Christina Koch e o canadense Jeremy Hansen.
Além dos testes técnicos de sistemas de suporte à vida e navegação, a missão carrega um forte simbolismo de representatividade: Victor Glover e Christina Koch tornam-se, respectivamente, o primeiro homem negro e a primeira mulher a participarem de uma missão tripulada rumo à órbita lunar.
Os dados coletados durante este voo servirão de base para as próximas fases do programa Artemis, que preveem o retorno efetivo de seres humanos à superfície da Lua ainda nesta década.
