A primeira-ministra da Itália, Giorgia Meloni, e o príncipe herdeiro saudita, Mohammed bin Salman, discutiram a "assistência militar defensiva" italiana e concordaram sobre a urgência de garantir a liberdade de navegação no Estreito de Ormuz "o mais rápido possível".
Meloni encerrou neste sábado (4) sua visita a Jeddah, na Arábia Saudita, primeira etapa de uma viagem "surpresa" pelo Golfo Pérsico. O roteiro também inclui Catar e Emirados Árabes Unidos e tem como objetivo tratar da crise regional e garantir o fornecimento de energia.
Segundo comunicado oficial, a visita de Meloni a bin Salman simboliza a proximidade entre a Itália e o reino saudita.
Durante o encontro, os líderes discutiram temas centrais da agenda internacional, incluindo a assistência militar defensiva italiana, as perspectivas de conflitos em andamento e os esforços para alcançar soluções diplomáticas.
Além disso, debateram a necessidade de promover uma nova estrutura regional capaz de superar o atual ciclo de instabilidade.
O encontro também proporcionou uma oportunidade para discutir maneiras de garantir o fornecimento de energia e reduzir o impacto da crise sobre empresas e cidadãos.
Outro ponto de destaque foi que a premiê italiana e o príncipe concordaram sobre a importância de garantir a liberdade de navegação no Estreito de Ormuz, considerada essencial para o comércio global e a segurança energética, o mais rápido possível.
Meloni e Mohammed bin Salman também revisaram a parceria estratégica firmada entre os dois países durante visita anterior da premiê à cidade de Al-Ula, em janeiro de 2025.
Por fim, os dois ressaltaram a importância de aprofundar a cooperação em áreas como economia, investimentos, infraestrutura estratégica, segurança e defesa, especialmente diante do atual cenário regional e internacional.
A viagem, que não havia sido anunciada previamente, faz da líder italiana a primeira chefe de Estado ocidental a visitar a região desde o início do conflito deflagrado por EUA e Israel contra o Irã , em 28 de fevereiro. (com Ansa)
