Um terremoto de magnitude 5,9 atingiu a região norte do Afeganistão nesta sexta-feira, 3, deixando ao menos 12 mortos, informou o governo e a organização Crescente Vermelho. Segundo as autoridades, oito das vítimas fatais eram da mesma família e estavam em uma casa que desabou em Cabul, capital do país. Uma criança de 3 anos também ficou ferida.
De acordo com o Centro Alemão de Pesquisas em Geociência, o epicentro aconteceu a 177 km de profundidade e atingiu a região das montanhas Hindu Kush, que passam pelo nordeste afegão e por outros países do entorno. Tremores também foram sentidos nas capitais do Paquistão e da Índia, Islamabad e Nova Délhi, afirmou a agência de notícias Reuters.
O terremoto acontece em meio a inundações que já mataram dezenas de pessoas no país: nos últimos 10 dias, chuvas e deslizamentos deixaram ao menos 77 vítimas fatais na região, além de 137 feridos, informou neste sábado a Autoridade de Gestão de Desastres do país. Além disso, dezenas de pessoas morreram desde o início do ano devido a desastres climáticos na região, incluindo fortes nevascas e enchentes repentinas.
