"Eu acho que, muito mais do que o Mais Médicos, o povo está precisando de uma segunda consulta. E estamos investindo R$ 600 milhões em manutenção por ano neste hospital para que qualquer pessoa, por mais humilde que seja, seja atendida como um presidente da República", disse durante a cerimônia, em referência à necessidade de desafogar a fila do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) para atendimentos de média e alta complexidade. O espaço é responsável por atender as especialidades de pediatria, clínica médica, clínica geral e urologia.
Após o primeiro ano de reabertura, a unidade realizou mais de 17 mil atendimentos, retomou o funcionamento 24 horas, ampliou a enfermaria clínica de 27 para 60 leitos, recebeu e instalou dois tomógrafos — um deles adaptado para pacientes obesos — e reforçou sua força de trabalho, que hoje conta com 2.241 profissionais, um aumento de 57%.
O hospital estava com emergências, enfermaria e salas cirúrgicas fechadas por falta de manutenção e pessoal. A unidade agora possui oito novos consultórios e seis salas de classificação de risco, além da oferta de exames de ultrassonografia, de eletrocardiograma e de análises laboratoriais.
