Um dos focos da apuração é verificar se a Shein possui salvaguardas adequadas para limitar a venda de produtos ilegais. Em novembro do ano passado, autoridades francesas identificaram que a empresa vendia em seu marketplace bonecas sexuais com características infantis e grandes quantidades de armas ilegais, incluindo armas de fogo, facas e facões.
França abriu disputa
O governo francês tentou suspender o acesso ao site da Shein no país, mas um tribunal bloqueou a medida e pediu que a Comissão Europeia investigasse o caso. Na ocasião, o bloco chegou a solicitar explicações sobre a disponibilidade desses itens e indicou suspeita de que o sistema da Shein represente "risco sistêmico para os consumidores" da UE.
A Comissão também avaliará se a Shein possui sistemas para mitigar riscos relacionados ao que descreve como o design viciante da plataforma, que inclui oferecer pontos ou recompensas por engajamento.
Reguladores ainda miram a transparência dos sistemas de recomendação, que sugerem novos produtos aos consumidores. Há preocupação de que a empresa não explique claramente aos usuários por que determinados itens estão sendo priorizados.
Shein diz que cumpre obrigações
A Shein afirmou que leva suas obrigações a sério e continuará cooperando com a Comissão. A empresa disse ter investido significativamente no fortalecimento da conformidade com a DSA.
As medidas incluem "avaliações abrangentes de riscos sistêmicos e estruturas de mitigação, proteções aprimoradas para usuários mais jovens e trabalho contínuo para projetar nossos serviços de forma a promover uma experiência segura e confiável", afirmou em comunicado.
"Proteger menores e reduzir o risco de conteúdos e comportamentos prejudiciais está no centro de como desenvolvemos e operamos nossa plataforma."
