Conforme Parolin, a Santa Sé não integrará a organização "devido à sua natureza particular". O secretário de Estado repassou a informação à imprensa após uma reunião com o presidente da Itália, Sergio Mattarella. Na declaração, ele também defendeu o papel da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) na resolução de conflitos e que, para o Vaticano, a iniciativa é que deve "gerir as situações de crise".
O convite de Trump foi enviado ao Papa Leão XIV em janeiro de 2026. Ao confirmar o recebimento da proposta, Parolin disse que seria avaliada pela Santa Sé. "O papa recebeu um convite, e estamos analisando o que fazer. Acredito que será algo que exigirá um pouco de tempo para reflexão antes de darmos uma resposta", afirmou.
O Conselho de Paz foi lançado, oficialmente, pelo presidente dos EUA no início de 2026. Trump convidou dezenas de países, inclusive o Brasil, para integrarem a organização. Itália, França e Alemanha já rejeitaram a proposta, que ainda não foi respondida pelo governo brasileiro.
