Um idoso, de 80 anos, identificado apenas como Joel do Pão morreu, no início da tarde desta quinta-feira, 19, na região rural de Coculo, em Ubatã, no sul da Bahia. Segundo testemunhas, ele estava acompanhado de outra pessoa quando teria realizado um "aceiro" - prática usada para limpar ou conter a vegetação antes da queima de pastagens -, momento em que o fogo saiu do controle, se espalhou rapidamente e acabou atingindo-o.
A pessoa que estava com o senhor acionou uma ambulância da Secretaria Municipal de Saúde para atendê-lo. Mas, quando a equipe chegou ao local, ele já estava morto. Não há informações se o acompanhante ficou ferido.
