Uma bactéria isolada de uma camada de gelo com cerca de 5 mil anos chamou a atenção de pesquisadores ao apresentar resistência a múltiplos antibióticos modernos.
A cepa, denominada Psychrobacter sp. SC65A.3, foi recuperada da Caverna de Gelo Scărișoara, na Romênia, considerada um dos mais antigos depósitos subterrâneos de gelo do mundo.
O sequenciamento genômico revelou mais de 100 genes associados à resistência antimicrobiana. Em testes laboratoriais, o microrganismo mostrou resistência a antibióticos de diferentes classes, incluindo penicilinas, cefalosporinas, fluoroquinolonas e aminoglicosídeos.
Entre os genes identificados está o mcr-1, relacionado à resistência à colistina, medicamento usado como último recurso em infecções graves. estudo foi publicado na revista científica Frontiers in Microbiology.
