O México mobilizou nesta segunda-feira, 23, 10 mil militares para proteger a população após uma onda de violência gerada pela morte de seu chefe principal do narcotráfico em uma operação militar que deixou quase 75 mortos.
Os soldados foram mobilizados principalmente em Jalisco, estado do oeste do México, onde, no domingo, 22, agentes de segurança capturaram Nemesio Oseguera, conhecido como 'El Mencho', que era o líder do Cartel Jalisco Nova Geração (CJNG), por quem Washington oferecia uma recompensa de 15 milhões de dólares (R$ 77,44 milhões, na cotação atual). O CJNG foi designado há um ano como organização narcoterrorista estrangeira pelos Estados Unidos.
A captura e morte de 'El Mencho' provocaram uma resposta violenta do cartel, que bloqueou estradas, incendiou veículos, atacou postos de gasolina, comércios e bancos e enfrentou as autoridades em 20 estados mexicanos.
Pelo menos 27 agentes de segurança, 30 criminosos e uma cidadã morreram durante a operação e em confrontos posteriores, informou o secretário de Segurança, Omar García Harfuch.
