Alheio à OAB, Gilmar defende inquérito das 'Fake News'
"Nós vivemos esse momento dramático. Convivemos com isso no início do governo Bolsonaro. Foi uma opção difícil. Eu não quero fazer a especulação do "se" na história. O que seria do Brasil não fora a instauração do inquérito das fake news?", questionou o ministro, enquanto fazia referência aos 135 anos da criação da Corte.
Mendes destacou a atuação do tribunal na defesa da democracia a relembrou que os atos golpistas de 8 de janeiro de 2023 depredaram as instalações do STF.

A fala do decano da Corte foi uma espécie de resposta à Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil (OAB), que tem pressionado o STF para por um ponto final no inquérito.
Na segunda-feira (23), a entidade protocolou junto ao STF um pedido nesse sentido, por entender que "a manutenção de procedimentos de longa duração, sem delimitação clara, gera insegurança jurídica e compromete garantias constitucionais fundamentais".

Ainda não se sabe qual era encaminhamento que o presidente do STF, Edson Fachin, dará ao pedido da OAB.
Mas, a defesa feita pelo decano da Corte é um bom sinalizador de que o tribunal não deverá abrir mão do inquérito das fake news.
