A prefeita da cidade, Femke Halsema, afirmou que a explosão foi um ataque à comunidade judaica do país. "A explosão causou apenas danos limitados", disse à agência de notícias holandesa ANP.
"Uma escola deve ser um lugar onde as crianças possam receber aulas com segurança. Amsterdã deve ser um lugar onde os judeus possam viver com segurança", afirmou a prefeita.
Não se sabe se houve vítimas. De acordo com o De Telegraaf, a polícia e os bombeiros responderam rapidamente.
Câmeras de segurança flagraram a pessoa que detonou o explosivo e o caso está sendo investigado.
A ministra da Defesa do país chamou de "covarde" o ataque pelas redes sociais.
"Uma escola. Uma explosão em uma escola. Pare e pense nisso por um momento. Extremamente covarde. Conto com a captura dos responsáveis em breve. Continuaremos nossa luta contra o antissemitismo até que toda criança judia possa ir à escola em segurança", disse.
