Conforme a Polícia Militar do Ceará (PMCE), após o ataque contra as vítimas os suspeitos fugiram, mas foram localizados durante diligências de uma equipe do Comando de Policiamento de Rondas de Ações Intensivas e Ostensivas (CPRaio) no bairro São Miguel.
No momento da abordagem, um deles reagiu contra a equipe e, em seguida, houve a intervenção policial. Os dois suspeitos foram lesionados e socorridos para um hospital. O homem, de 26 anos, não resistiu aos ferimentos e morreu.

O adolescente, de 16 anos, foi atingido na perna e permaneceu em atendimento médico. Com eles, foram apreendidos o revólver e a motocicleta utilizados na ação criminosa. O suspeito morto já tinha antecedentes por porte ilegal de arma de fogo e lesão corporal no contexto de violência doméstica.
Em nota, a PMCE informou que o adolescente foi apreendido por ato infracional análogo ao crime de tentativa de homicídio e apresentado na Delegacia Regional do Crato, onde o procedimento foi instaurado.
Com eles ainda foram apreendidos um revólver calibre .38 com 10 munições intactas e cinco deflagradas, além de uma motocicleta. Não há informações sobre a motivação do crime contra o adulto e a criança.
