Diversos ataques aéreos atingiram os subúrbios de Beirute, na madrugada desta segunda-feira (16), e múltiplos ataques foram relatados em todo o sul do Líbano, de acordo com a agência de notícias estatal do país, NNA.
Imagens da agência de notícias Reuters mostraram uma grande coluna de fumaça subindo sobre os subúrbios do sul de Beirute, um reduto do Hezbollah que tem sido alvo de bombardeios aéreos israelenses.
Israel emitiu alertas de evacuação para grande parte do sul do Líbano, partes de Beirute, e o Vale do Beca, em uma tentativa de atingir o Hezbollah em todo o país.
Nesta manhã, os militares israelenses disseram que suas tropas iniciaram operações terrestres limitadas contra posições do Hezbollah no sul do Líbano, nos últimos dias, para reforçar as defesas avançadas.
O Ministério da Saúde do Líbano informou que 850 pessoas morreram e mais de 2.100 ficaram feridas desde o início do conflito, até o final da tarde de domingo (15). A CNN não conseguiu verificar esses números de forma independente.
Em um comunicado divulgado no domingo, as forças de paz da ONU afirmaram terem sido alvejadas, "provavelmente por grupos armados não estatais", enquanto realizavam patrulhas em suas bases. Ninguém ficou ferido.
Entretanto, o Hezbollah afirmou ter lançado 5 ataques até o momento nesta segunda-feira. No domingo, o grupo disse ter lançado 25 ataques contra alvos em Israel, nas Colinas de Golã e em posições das Forças de Defesa de Israel (IDF) no Líbano.
