Real Madrid x Manchester City e Paris Saint Germain x Chelsea serão os principais confrontos das oitavas de final da Liga dos Campeões, após o sorteio realizado nesta sexta-feira (27) na sede da Uefa, em Nyon (Suíça).

Confronto entre gigantes na oitavas de final da Champions League
Com seis equipes inglesas na disputa e três espanholas, era fácil prever que haveria algum confronto entre clubes das duas ligas mais poderosas da Europa. O sorteio foi além e definiu que os três representantes de LaLiga terão rivais da poderosa Premier League.
Na fase de classificação da Champions League foram disputadas 10 partidas entre clubes das duas ligas e em apenas uma delas o representante espanhol derrotou o inglês: na primeira rodada, o Barcelona venceu o Newcastle, justamente seu rival nas oitavas, por 2-1 fora de casa.
Em tese, o Barça deu sorte no sorteio, já que o outro rival que poderia ter nas oitavas era o Chelsea e, além disso, ficou na parte de baixo da chave, à primeira vista muito menos forte do que a parte de cima.
O rival do Barcelona nas quartas, caso avance, será Atlético de Madrid ou o Tottenham.
Real Madrid e City voltarão a se enfrentar pela oitava vez desde 2012. No confronto mais recente, na fase classificatória da atual edição, a equipe de Pep Guardiola venceu por 2 a 1 na capital espanhol, mas o clube merengue superou o inglês nos dois últimos mata-matas que disputaram: na repescagem da temporada passada e nas quartas de final de 2024, temporada em que o Real Madrid conquistou seu 15º título continental.
O vencedor de Real-City enfrentará nas quartas de final o time classificado do duelo entre Atalanta e Bayern.
O atual campeão Paris Saint-Germain enfrentará o Chelsea, clube que derrotou o time da capital francesa na final do Mundial de Clubes. O vencedor do duelo enfrentará, nas quartas, Galatasaray ou Liverpool.
