Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila, organizer of the Global Sumud Flotilla, was visited by lawyers on Monday (4) at the Shikma detention center in Israel. The organization Adalah reports that he is suffering psychological abuse and has been on hunger strike for six days along with another activist, Saif Abukeshek. Brazil's Foreign Ministry is providing consular assistance and has filed a formal protest over the detention.

The Global Sumud Flotilla was a humanitarian mission challenging the blockade of Gaza when it was intercepted by the Israeli Navy in international waters. Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila and Palestinian-Spanish Saif Abukeshek were detained during this operation and are being represented by Adalah, a human rights organization.
