Cartacapital

Raoni was admitted to Hospital São Paulo on Friday (19) at 4:30 PM, presenting with intestinal obstruction, dehydration and aspiration pneumonia. Aspiration pneumonia can be caused by vomiting associated with intestinal obstruction — the aspirated gastric content causes chemical injury to the airways, according to MSD Manuals (Merck). The chief had been transferred from Sinop (MT), where he had been hospitalized since June 13 with changes in kidney function and a severe infectious process.

This is Raoni's third hospitalization in 2026. In a previous bulletin released on June 16 by Hospital Dois Pinheiros in Sinop, there was no prediction of hospital discharge. Technical director Douglas Yanai stated at the time that Raoni "is a very strong man," but warned that his advanced age and multiple comorbidities leave him "a bit more fragile," requiring continuous intensive care.

3. What we don't know yet (3)
  • What is the medium-term medical prognosis for Raoni after surgery?

Why it's still unknown: The hospital has not released a discharge prediction or recovery time estimate. The medical bulletin records only the immediate post-operative progress.

  • What were the multiple comorbidities mentioned by Hospital Dois Pinheiros?

Why it's still unknown: Technical director Douglas Yanai mentioned 'multiple comorbidities' on June 16, but did not specify them publicly. Subsequent medical bulletins do not detail pre-existing conditions.

  • What is the temporal and causal relationship between the severe infectious process diagnosed on June 13 and the intestinal obstruction that led to surgery?

Why it's still unknown: Sources report that Raoni was initially hospitalized with renal alterations and an infectious process, then developed intestinal obstruction and aspiration pneumonia, but medical bulletins do not clarify whether the obstruction was a consequence of the infectious condition or an independent condition.
