The Chamber of Deputies approved late Wednesday (27) the Constitutional Amendment Proposal that ends the 6x1 work schedule and reduces the weekly workload from 44 to 40 hours. In the second round, there were 461 votes in favor and 19 against — in the first round, the score was 472 to 22. The proposal now goes to the Senate for analysis.

The approved text provides for a 14-month transition to implement the changes. Sixty days after promulgation, the workload will drop from 44 to 42 hours per week and workers will be entitled to two days off per week, one preferably on Sundays. After an additional 12 months, working hours will be reduced to 40 hours per week definitively.

The PEC is the result of an agreement between Chamber President Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB) and the Lula government, which sees the proposal as one of the main electoral flags for 2026. The final report by Deputy Leo Prates (Republicans-BA) unified two proposals that were being processed separately: one by Deputy Reginaldo Lopes (PT-MG), which provided for a 36-hour workday in 10 years, and another by Deputy Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP), which proposed a 4x3 schedule with 36 weekly hours.
