CPT reports 28% drop in rural conflicts in 2025, but murders double

The Pastoral Land Commission reported Monday that rural conflicts fell 28% in 2025, dropping from 2,207 to 1,593 occurrences. Murders doubled from 13 to 26 victims. Cases of slave labor increased 5%, with 1,991 people rescued.

The Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) is a Catholic Church-linked organization that has monitored agrarian conflicts in Brazil for 40 years. The CPT's annual report documents different types of rural violence, including conflicts over land, water, slave labor and killings of rural workers and traditional peoples.
