Early cancer diagnosis can save more lives in Brazil, where the National Cancer Institute (INCA) projects 781,000 new annual cases between 2026-2028. According to oncologist Marcos Rezende, when detected in early stages, most patients have over 90% chance of cure.

Tumors in liver, lung, pancreas and ovary often evolve silently, with nonspecific symptoms like fatigue and weight loss that can be confused with daily stress. The oncologist explains that small, localized tumors don't cause perceptible changes initially, as the organism has immune tolerance mechanisms. ?

"Female breast and prostate cancers stand out as the most frequent types, each accounting for approximately 15% of all new occurrences. They are followed by colorectal cancer (10.4%), trachea, bronchus and lung cancer (6.8%), stomach cancer (4.4%), and cervical cancer (3.7%)."

"Excluding non-melanoma skin cancer, 518,000 new cases are projected."

The Unified Health System offers free exams like mammography, Pap smears and colonoscopy, but coverage varies significantly. For screening mammography, women using exclusively the SUS have coverage between 9.5% in Tocantins and 34.7% in Paraná, according to 2022 INCA data. Symptoms persisting for more than three months, like non-healing wounds and intestinal changes, should be investigated.
