Eduardo Bolsonaro suggested that the Brazilian government abandon Pix and adopt the American payment system Zelle as a way to demonstrate goodwill in negotiations with the Trump government. The former congressman stated that "the United States has mechanisms very similar to Pix, such as Zelle, which is the United States' Pix" during an interview with TMC on Tuesday (3).

"os Estados Unidos têm mecanismos muito semelhantes ao Pix, como, por exemplo, o Zelle, que é o Pix dos Estados Unidos. Aqui é o Zelle. Então, dá para você ir para uma mesa de negociação com os americanos"

The suggestion comes after the US government concluded a commercial investigation into Pix, accusing Brazil of favoring the national system over American digital payment companies. Federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) classified the proposal as "surrendering" and denounced that "the Bolsonaro family and Trump want to take Pix away from the Central Bank" to "hand it over to North American companies."

Pix is a public infrastructure created by Brazil's Central Bank, available to the entire population and used by individuals, companies, governments and businesses. According to Agência Brasil cited by the press, the system had accumulated 178.9 million users by the end of November 2025. Zelle, meanwhile, is a private platform controlled by major American banks, administered by Early Warning Services and restricted mainly to transfers between individuals in the United States.
