USP students maintain occupation of university administration building and demand resumption of negotiations

2 sources · 09 May 2026 · Share coverage ·

USP students occupied the university's administration building on Thursday (7th) and have maintained the occupation since then. The students demand that the rector resume negotiations about increasing student assistance grants and improvements to university housing and dining services.

USP students have been on strike since April 14, with more than 100 courses joining the movement demanding improvements in student assistance policies. The occupation of the rectory was triggered after the administration unilaterally ended negotiations and proposed what was considered an insufficient increase of R$27 in the full PAPFE aid, which would go from R$885 to R$912.
