According to the department, the first symptoms began on February 2 and the patient died six days later. "Em 2026, até o momento, foram confirmados sete casos e um óbito, sem relação com a situação internacional"

The case is unrelated to the outbreak recorded on the MV Hondius cruise ship, which departed from Argentina in April and resulted in the death of three passengers. According to the ministry, there is no record of circulation of the Andes genotype in Brazil — a variant related to the rare episode of person-to-person transmission recorded in Argentina and Chile. In the country, human cases do not show transmission between people.
