Driver who killed 8-year-old child in Escada released with electronic ankle monitor

Josenildo Oliveira da Silva, 48, was released on Tuesday (21) after a custody hearing. He was driving the pickup truck that ran over and killed José Lorenzo, 8, on Sunday (19) in Escada. The decision came on the same day as the child's burial.

The accident occurred when the driver lost control of the pickup truck on a hill, hit a post and struck a group of pedestrians. Following the incident, local residents became outraged, assaulted the driver and set fire to the vehicle, requiring intervention from Military Police tactical teams.
