New 'Lord of the Rings' film confirms cast and December 2027 release

Warner confirmed the cast of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum' during CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The film will be directed by Andy Serkis and is scheduled for release in December 2027.

The original 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson, was released between 2001 and 2003 and grossed approximately $3 billion worldwide, winning 17 Oscar statues. The new film will be set between the events of 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring', showing Aragorn searching for Gollum throughout Middle-earth before he reveals the location of the One Ring to Sauron.
