2 sources · 14 Apr 2026 · Share coverage ·

Petrobras reported finding oil in the Campos Basin pre-salt off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. It is the second discovery in the region in less than 30 days. The company still needs to conduct studies to determine the recoverable volume.

The Campos Basin was discovered in 1974 and saved Brazil during the 1979 oil crisis, but was sidelined after pre-salt discoveries in the Santos Basin. This is the second oil discovery in the Campos Basin pre-salt in less than 30 days, indicating the region may have untapped potential.
