Brazil's Chamber of Deputies approved late Wednesday (27) in two rounds a constitutional amendment ending the 6x1 work schedule and reducing the weekly workload from 44 to 40 hours.

Deputy Leo Prates' (Republicans-BA) substitute bill provides for a two-stage transition: 60 days after enactment, the workweek will drop to 42 hours with guaranteed two days off; after 12 months, it will be definitively reduced to 40 hours. The text prohibits any salary reduction and determines that one of the days off should preferably be on Sundays.

PL even presented a preference highlight defending 36-hour workweek in four days, but the strategy was seen as an attempt to embarrass the government.
