The Senate's Constitution and Justice Committee conducts a hearing this Wednesday (29) for Jorge Messias, current Attorney General of the Union, nominated by Lula to fill a Supreme Court vacancy. The nomination will also be voted on by the full Senate.

The STF vacancy became available after Luís Roberto Barroso's retirement in October 2025, who decided to leave his position after 12 years on the Supreme Court. Since the promulgation of the 1988 Constitution, the Federal Senate has never rejected a nomination to the Federal Supreme Court, having approved all 29 names chosen by different presidents.
